Today, we're going to take a look at the Taylor Made 15 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now, this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat hatch lid or a compartment door. This will extend to ease lifting your hatch lid, and it does compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It's used as a heat treated steel construction, which is very durable, has a corrosion resistant coating on it that won't rust, even in salt water areas. And it easily installs in minutes. There's no special tools required.
It's basically a ball and socket installation and attaches to the ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch or compartment door. Now, when you do install this, you do want to make sure this inner rod is always facing down. It is recommended to replace the gas shocks in pairs. The connection type on this is a 10 millimeter ball socket. And just to give you an idea of how this installs, let me just zoom in so you can see a detail of the ends. On each end, you'll see there's a clip right up at the top here and then the socket underneath.
What you'll do is take a small flat tip screwdriver, stick it under that clip, raise it up and that will release the pressure and allow you to remove the old one from your compartment door or your hatch. When you go to put this new one on, same way. Just pry that clip up a little bit. You don't want to pry it completely off, just raise it up a little bit. That'll release the pressure. Put it onto the 10 millimeter ball.
And then once it's on the ball, just push that clip back down and it'll secure it to your door or hatch. So very easy installation. Now, the length on this, we're going to measure. And the length is measured from the center of this ball socket to the center of that ball socket. If we take our tape measure, we go center to center, there's your 15 inch measurement. The compression force on this strut is 90 pounds and it is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 15 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches..
